Got questions? You’re in the right place! Here you’ll find quick answers to the most common things people ask before working with me or exploring my services.

Starting From Scratch

Building a website from scratch is an exciting opportunity to create something entirely tailored to your needs. Whether you’re launching a brand, starting a blog, or opening an online store, I partner with you to bring your vision to life—beautifully and strategically. These web design FAQs walk you through what to expect when working with me on a brand new website or site refresh, from timelines to tools and everything in between.

A brand new site includes everything from strategic planning and design to build-out, optimization, and launch. I’ll create a custom WordPress site using a theme framework in Kadence (my favorite!) that aligns with your goals, is mobile-friendly, SEO-conscious, fast, and totally you. You’ll walk away with a site that feels beautiful and functions beautifully, too.

I build all of my sites on self-hosted WordPress, using the Kadence theme framework. It’s flexible, lightweight, SEO-friendly, and gives you full ownership and control—no subscriptions or closed ecosystems.

Honestly, this varies based on what you need in your new web home. I’ll provide a clear project timeline after our discovery call. Most builds take 4–8 weeks, depending on the scope and your responsiveness for feedback and content.

Yes! I’ll help you choose the right hosting provider (I’m partial to BigScoots) and make sure your domain is pointed correctly. If you already have these, I’ll work with what you have.

Absolutely! If you already have a logo and brand colors/fonts you love, I’ll incorporate those into the design. If not, we can talk about brand discovery and light branding support.

I don’t offer full branding packages (like color theory, brand guides, or custom logos), but I do help refine your look! I’ll guide you on cohesive color palettes, suggest fonts that match your vibe, and work with any existing logos or brand elements you provide. If you need in-depth branding help, I’m happy to refer you to a trusted partner.

Absolutely. Every site I build is fully responsive — which means it looks and functions great on desktops, tablets, and mobile phones. I also optimize layouts so they aren’t just technically responsive…they actually make sense for real users on smaller screens.

I do! If you plan to sell products, offer courses, or have a membership site, we’ll plan your build accordingly and choose the right tools for your business goals.

While I don’t write full site copy, I do offer guidance on what content goes where and help shape your message so it’s clear, welcoming, and effective. I can provide prompts, review your wording, and help polish key sections like your homepage, About page, or Services overview.

Absolutely. I build every site with user-friendliness in mind. I’ll guide you through how to update your own content (like text, images, and blog posts), so you feel empowered — not dependent. For clients who prefer a hands-off approach, I also offer optional ongoing support packages.

Yes. I’ll never leave you hanging. You’ll get a post-launch support window (typically 30 days), plus video tutorials or a walk-through if needed, so you feel confident managing your site.

Yes! I’ll create a private staging site — a safe, behind-the-scenes preview of your website — where you can view and interact with it before it’s launched. You’ll have a chance to review everything, provide feedback, and request any final tweaks before we go live.

Website Rebuild

If your current site feels outdated, clunky, or misaligned with your goals, a strategic revamp can breathe new life into your online presence. I take what’s working, fix what’s not, and elevate your site to match your evolving brand. These FAQs cover what it’s like to work together on a website overhaul—from design updates to backend cleanups.

Yes. I can assess your current setup and either enhance your existing theme or migrate you to something more modern and user-friendly, depending on your goals.

I only build with Kadence. While I can sometimes help transition a site away from certain builders—like Elementor—I do not build within them. Kadence offers unmatched speed, accessibility, and long-term maintainability, which is why it’s my go-to. If you’re currently using something else (Elementor is most common), I can help migrate your content into a fresh Kadence setup.

Absolutely. During a revamp, I often recommend consolidating and streamlining categories and tags to improve navigation, internal linking, and SEO. I’ll guide you through the process.

Cupcake ipsum dolor sit amet croissant shortbread halvah candy. Marshmallow candy candy oat cake chocolate bar cotton candy. Gummies marzipan chupa chups soufflé danish pie sesame.

Ideally, no — especially if they are already indexed and performing well. If any URLs do need to change due to structure improvements, I’ll implement 301 redirects so you don’t lose traffic or rankings.

Yes! I can design a fresh homepage layout that better reflects your brand and content priorities. I’ll also rework your menus for a more intuitive user experience.

Definitely. Mobile responsiveness is a core part of any revamp. I ensure your site looks great and functions well across all devices.

Yes. I perform a full performance audit and will optimize images, plugins, scripts, and your theme for faster load times and better Core Web Vitals scores.

Yes. Design updates and SEO can work hand-in-hand. I make sure any changes maintain (or improve) your SEO health, including keeping metadata intact and minimizing disruption to indexed content.

Not unless it’s no longer serving you. I evaluate your current tools, plugins, and features — and either preserve, replace, or upgrade them based on your needs.

Yes. I’ll remove unnecessary plugins, organize your media library (as much as is feasible), and streamline your admin dashboard so it’s easier to manage your site moving forward

Yes. I follow best practices for web accessibility, including color contrast, heading hierarchy, alt text, and keyboard navigation support. I can also help with automated and manual accessibility checks.

In most cases, yes. However, if your current host is causing speed, security, or reliability issues, I’ll make a recommendation for a better fit. I work with most major hosts and can coordinate the transition if needed.

Yes! I can recommend high-performing, SEO-friendly, and mobile-responsive themes that align with your brand and content structure. I’ll also fully customize the theme to suit your needs.

Definitely. I prioritize user-friendly builds and will provide documentation or training so you (or your team) can confidently update content, publish posts, and manage day-to-day tasks.

I frequently work with hosts like BigScoots and can coordinate directly on your behalf for staging pushes, SSL issues, caching setup, and more.

I can help you set up and understand Google Analytics 4 (GA4), run SEMrush or Wincher reports, and make data-driven recommendations for improvements.

Using tools like Yoast or SEMrush, I’ll monitor for indexing errors, content issues, broken links, and make optimizations when needed.

Need something new added to your homepage? Publishing a seasonal banner? Updating your About page? I’ve got it covered.

Want to freshen up your homepage layout or rethink your navigation six months down the road? I can handle small-to-medium design revisions within your existing Kadence setup.

Working With Me

Curious about how I work, what I value, or what you can expect throughout our time together? This section answers the most common questions about my process, communication style, and approach. Whether you’re hiring me for a full build or ongoing support, this gives you a clear sense of what it’s like to collaborate with me.

Nope! And that’s a good thing. I’m a seasoned site builder with 10+ years of experience creating beautiful, functional, user-friendly websites for myself and others. I don’t outsource. I don’t run a team. When you hire me, you get me—directly.

With an agency, you often end up in a ticketing system or bounced between departments. With me, you get one point of contact, one consistent voice, and someone who truly cares about your project’s outcome. You can call, text, email—whatever works for you. I’m here for you, not just your website.

I use WordPress with trusted, customizable themes and powerful block-based builders (Kadence is my go-to). That means you get a site that’s beautiful, fast, mobile-responsive, and easy to update—without the custom code price tag or dependency on a developer for every little change.

Absolutely not. My goal is to de-mystify the tech and empower you to use your site with confidence. I’ll walk you through things clearly and patiently. And if something still feels overwhelming? I can take it off your plate.

That’s totally okay! I’m here to help you figure it out. Whether you’re launching a new idea, updating a site that’s gotten dusty, or just feeling stuck, we can talk through your goals and create a plan that makes sense for you.

A lot! That’s one of the biggest perks of working with someone like me. I’m responsive, available, and genuinely want you to succeed. You won’t have to chase me down or wait days for a reply. I’m just a text or email away.

Yes! I offer flexible support packages—or we can keep things casual and as-needed. Some clients like knowing I’m on standby for monthly tasks or seasonal updates. Others just ping me when they need help. Either way, I’ve got you.

If it’s something I can’t personally handle—like advanced development or in-depth brand guilding—I’ll always be honest about that and do my best to recommend someone I trust. I’ll never take on work outside my wheelhouse just to say yes.

Tech & Tools

I don’t believe in gatekeeping great tools—and I won’t leave you guessing what’s under the hood. Here’s a quick look at the platforms and tools I use most often when building, maintaining, and growing websites. You’ll find even more detail on my Business Toolkit page

My builds are on self-hosted WordPress using the Kadence Framework. I also love to work within Restored316 themes and custom block-based designs, depending on your needs.

BigScoots is my go-to for managed WordPress hosting—fast, reliable, and responsive. I’ve worked with many hosting providers over the years, and BigScoots consistently delivers top-tier service.

I’ve worked with Flodesk, MailerLite, and MailChimp. I can help you choose the best fit for your business and integrate it seamlessly with your website.

Not at all! I’ll guide you through what you need to know, and I handle the heavy lifting. Think of me as your tech translator—so you can focus on running your business.

Right Here! My Business Toolkit page has a full list, including hosting, themes, plugins, and other design and marketing tools—with honest notes to make getting started easier.

Budget & Payment

When it comes to money, clarity matters. I believe in transparent pricing, clear expectations, and mutual respect. Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions about project costs, payment schedules, contracts, and what happens if your needs shift. No surprises here—just honest collaboration.

Most custom website projects range from $1,500 to $15,000, depending on the scope, size, and level of customization. (For example: A brand-new small business site will land at the lower end, while a large, multi-page membership or video-based site—like TVB—will be higher.) Once we’ve discussed your needs, I’ll provide a custom quote based on your goals, timeline, and features.

Yes. I typically split project payments into two installments: 50% up front to secure your start date, and 50% due just before handoff. This keeps us both accountable and aligned. If you’re working with a tight timeline or a unique situation, let’s chat.

My projects are generally flat fee—this allows for more predictability and less nickel-and-diming for both of us. That said, if extra features or major changes come up beyond the agreed scope, I’ll send a quick quote for approval before diving in.

Each project includes up to 3 rounds of revisions during the design and development phase. Need more? No problem! I can quote additional edits or create a separate hourly or flat-rate support package depending on the need.

Absolutely. Before we begin, we’ll have a clear scope of work, a written agreement, and shared expectations—so we’re both on the same page from day one.

It happens! If you need something beyond the original plan, we’ll pause, assess, and quote any extras before moving forward. No surprises, no confusion—just a collaborative and respectful process.

I’ve got you covered! After your site goes live, I offer paid ongoing support to keep things running smoothly. This can include plugin updates, performance optimization, design tweaks, content additions, or even troubleshooting weird tech hiccups.
