So, You Know You Need a Website… Now What?

You’ve got a business, a blog idea, a product, a passion — and you keep hearing that you really should have a website.

You know it’s time.
You want to show up online.
But the whole thing feels overwhelming.
Where do you even start?

Whether you’ve been stuck at “I don’t know what I want it to look like,” or you’ve started 12 different Squarespace free trials, this post is for you.

1. You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out to Get Started

Spoiler alert: most people don’t. Even the people who look like they do.

The biggest myth about launching a website is that you need:

  • A perfectly clear brand
  • Flawless copy
  • A finished product or service
  • A huge social following

Nope.

What you do need is a willingness to start messy and evolve as you go. Websites are not one-and-done — they’re living, breathing parts of your business. (And yes, they can grow with you.)

Start with the essentials:

  • Who are you?
  • What do you do or offer?
  • How can someone get in touch?

Everything else can be layered on from there.

2. DIY vs Hiring Someone: Be Honest About Your Capacity

It’s totally possible to DIY your first site — and for some people, it’s a great learning experience. But let’s be real: it takes time, patience, and a little tech confidence.

If you:

  • Keep stalling out
  • Can’t figure out what platform to use
  • Are tired of trying to learn web design via YouTube rabbit holes…

…that might be your sign to hand it off.

Hiring someone doesn’t mean you lose control. A good web designer (hi 👋) will partner with you to bring your vision to life and empower you to manage it going forward.

3. Your Website Can Be Simple — and Still Powerful

You don’t need a million bells and whistles. You just need a site that:

  • Reflects your vibe
  • Makes it easy for people to understand what you’re about
  • Guides them toward the next step (buy, book, subscribe, follow, etc.)

Start with one page if that’s all you need right now. A simple landing page or one-scroll homepage can do a lot of heavy lifting if it’s thoughtfully designed. For example, check out my client Dogfish Packaging who wanted all of their information on a one-scroll homepage.

Later? You can add blog posts, product pages, testimonials, even a newsletter. But none of that should stop you from launching something now.

Want a site you’re proud of — without the overwhelm?

If you’re feeling stuck, tired, unsure, or just flat-out don’t want to do it yourself… I’d love to help.

Whether you need a starter site, a homepage glow-up, or a partner to bring your dream to life, we’ll build something that feels like you — clean, intentional, and ready to grow with you.
